The EDI electrodeionization ultrapure water treatment system works on the following fundamental: It is a novel process for producing ultrapure water (high purity water) that organically integrates electrodialysis membrane separation and ion exchange technology. The electrochemical regeneration of the ion exchange resin in the fresh water chamber is carried out. The EDI membrane stack consists primarily of alternately stacked cation exchange membranes, concentrated water compartments, anion exchange membranes, fresh water compartments, and positive and negative electrodes. Under the operation of the DC electric field, the cations and anions in the fresh water chamber's ion exchange resin migrate to the negative electrode and the positive electrode, respectively, along the channel formed by the resin and membrane. The water chamber produces concentrated water.
At the same time, the cations and anions in the EDI influent are exchanged for hydrogen and hydroxide ions in the ion exchange resin, resulting in ultrapure water. The ultra-limit current allows for continuous renewal of the ion exchange resin using a huge number of hydrogen and hydroxide ions produced by water electrolysis. After the ion exchange resin has become saturated, chemical intermittent regeneration is required. The resin in the EDI membrane stack is continuously regenerated using water electrolysis, and there is no need for acid-base chemical regeneration.

EDI System Characteristics:
  1. No requirement for acid-base regeneration: In the mixed bed, the resin must be regenerated using chemicals and acid-base, and a workshop for safe acid and base storage is necessary. During regeneration, a huge amount of hazardous waste water and garbage must be processed, complicating environmental protection and safety efforts. EDI eliminates the need to handle and lift these hazardous products. Protect the environment.
  2. Continuous and simple operation: In the mixed bed, the operation process becomes complicated owing to changes in regeneration and water quality, however in the EDI, the water production process is stable and continuous, with constant water quality and no complication. The methods for operation are substantially simplified.
  3. Lower installation requirements: The EDI system has a smaller volume than a mixed bed with the same water treatment capacity. It uses a building block structure that can be dynamically built based on the height and fragrance of the site. The modular nature of EDI allows for easy maintenance throughout manufacturing.
