A dehydration column, sometimes referred to as a stripping column or dehydrator, is a piece of separation apparatus used to extract moisture or water from a liquid stream.
The procedure
Purpose
Water is removed from liquid mixtures using dehydration columns, which enhances product quality, increases process effectiveness, and stops corrosion and degradation.
The Principle of Operation
Water molecules can move from the liquid to the vapor phase thanks to the introduction of heated vapor at the bottom and the entry of the liquid mixture at the top, which flows downward based on distillation and mass transfer.
Packaging or Tray
To improve mass transfer between the liquid and vapor phases, dehydration columns can be equipped with trays or packing materials, which offer surfaces or interfacial areas for effective separation.
Pressure and Temperature
Maintaining a level where water vaporizes while other components stay in the liquid phase is achieved by controlling temperature and pressure to maximize water separation.
Collection and Condensation
