As an alternative to sand filter systems, multimedia filter systems can be employed. Anthracite coal, sand, and garnet are used as filter media, and FRP vessels—which are also available in stainless steel or carbon steel vessels—are used as vessels. It is employed to lower the SDI (Silt Density Index) level. Incoming water's total suspended solids, or TTS. Small particles like silt, clay, grit, organic materials, algae, and other microbes are examples of suspended solids. Just removing the suspended solids can lower the high-pressure drop and ensure that downstream filtration devices like ion exchange polishing, reverse osmosis membranes, EDI, UV, and precision filters work as intended.
Working Principle
The unfiltered water is distributed in the top of the sand filter and will slowly sink through the filter bed, leaving the dirt particles from the water behind in the fine pores of the sand. The sand filter should initiate a backwashing system once a specific amount of water has been filtered and the sand has become sufficiently polluted. The backwashing system can be started or stopped manually or automatically by the multiport control valves. When water enters the tank from the bottom during backwashing, the pores enlarge and the dirt is removed from the sand once more. Following that, the backwash water and dirt are released together. Consequently, the filtering function of the sand is restored.
Constructions
Filter Tank.
During multimedia filter systems, our FRP tanks—which include universal FRP tanks and FRP tanks with upper loading and lower discharge ports—are well-liked. There are tanks made of stainless steel.
Media.  Sand filters use filtration media of a single size. Sand can be altered in size to satisfy different water quality requirements. Each granule's ideal size typically ranges between 0.35 and 1.2 mm.
Distributors of water.
In this system, upper and bottom distributors might be required. The filtering and backwashing processes can run steadily thanks to the bottom distributors.
Multiple port control valves.
By using this device, you can lower the location of your pipeline and make the system more intelligent and stable. Options for both automatic and manual valves are offered.

Advantages of Multimedia filter system
The multimedia filter system, which is made up of three filtration media with varying porosities, is more effective than sand filters at capturing and holding onto all particles, big and small. In addition to saving space for the projects, it has a higher filtering efficiency.
Additionally, the arrangement of the bottom distributors, media depth, and backwash system can ensure that the sediments are filtered out completely without sacrificing the filtering media. The system service life is increased in this way.
