Comparing CFIC technology to popular Activated Sludge and MBBR technologies, the former provides performance that leads the industry. This is far more adaptable than current options because to its modest footprint, which makes it ideal for a variety of existing WWTPs.
How it operates
The biofilm carriers in CFIC reactors are so densely packed (usually 90–99% bulk volumetric fill) that there is minimal movement of the carriers within the reactor under normal operating conditions. When microorganisms in the biofilm adhere to the carriers' surface, they use the pollutants as food to develop. Excess biomass (sludge) is removed from the biofilm carriers by the CFIC process, which uses influent wastewater for intermittent cleaning and continuous inflow to the bioreactor.
To reach the strictest discharge limitations, the CFIC effluent can either be released straight or via a filtration step like FilterClear.
Getting a license
The original Kaldnes MBBR medium was created by the employees of Biowater Technology of Norway, who also produced CFIC. For CFIC, Bluewater Bio holds a worldwide non-exclusive license.
