Cation-exchange and anion-exchange resins are the two fundamental varieties of resin. In return for the impurity cations in the water, cation exchange resins will release hydrogen (H+) ions or other positively charged ions. In return for the impurity anions in the water, anion exchange resins will release hydroxyl (OH-) ions or other negatively charged ions.

Principal of Work

A typical two-bed demineralized water plant, also known as a DM plant, is made up of pressure vessels lined with FRP or MS rubber that are connected in series with its internal connections.

High-capacity, strongly acidic cation exchange resin makes up the first unit. It transforms salt's positive ions into hydrogen ions to create the appropriate acids, which are then absorbed by strongly basic anion exchange resin in the following vessel. At 250 C, the water produced using this method exhibits conductivity of less than 20 µ S/cm and total dissolved solids of less than 10 ppm.
