All globe valves have a closer element, usually in the form of a discor plug, that is pushed perpendicular to a ring-shaped seat by the actuator. The flow travels from the inlet port to the outlet port. The fundamental difference between the types is the orientation of the seat relative to the direction of flow through the valve.
