The deteriorating condition of water infrastructure can lead to financial loss, emergency repairs, pipeline failures, and decreased dependability.As infrastructure expectations and goals rise, the use and utilization of cutting-edge pipeline technologies has become increasingly important. Utilities can evaluate risk and prioritize assets that require replacement or rehabilitation by utilizing condition assessment technology and converting data into actionable outcomes.
While the system is running, pipe condition assessment can be done non-destructively and invasively using p-CATTM technology. In addition to detecting and locating defects like air and gas pockets, internal blockages and restrictions, unknown connections, pipe material changes, and cement matrix loss from metallic, concrete, and AC pipes, p-CATTM can determine the remaining wall thicknesses over long sections (many kilometers) of pipeline.
A tiny, controlled transient signal is introduced into the pipeline, and p-CATTM analyzes its partial reflection to determine how it operates. Sensors are temporarily put on existing pipe fittings to monitor and record the signal. Any change in pipeline structure, whether it be a result of other pipe deterioration issues or known system properties, causes the transient wave to undergo partial reflection.
