Research and development
The development of Filtralite® filter media is carried out in close collaboration with universities and research institutes in Norway and around the world. Numerous master’s theses, PhD studies, and scientific articles have been published on the use of Filtralite® in drinking water and wastewater treatment.

Characteristics
Filtralite® filter media is produced by firing natural clay at around 1,200°C to create expanded clay pellets, which are then crushed and sieved into specific grain sizes. Crushing exposes the highly porous internal structure. Typical aggregate sizes range from 0 to 20 mm, with dry particle densities of approximately 500–900 kg/m³. Filtralite® can be tailored to specific applications and does not release hazardous substances. Despite its high porosity and low density, it offers excellent resistance to impact and abrasion.
