The Burullus Combined Cycle Power Plant is one of the world’s largest gas-fired combined cycle power plants, with a capacity of 4,800 MW. This mega project encompassed the design, engineering, fabrication, delivery of materials and equipment, erection, testing, commissioning, startup, and full operation of both the Burullus and New Capital Combined Cycle Power Plants, executed under ISO conditions. Orascom Construction’s scope included full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) responsibilities, carried out in partnership with the OEM, who supplied the Gas Turbines, Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), and Steam Turbines. Together with Siemens, Orascom Construction successfully delivered two out of the three landmark power plants in Egypt, with a combined capacity of 9,600 MW. The Burullus project set a new global benchmark for fast-track power generation projects, completing in record time while achieving 50 million man-hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI).

Despite facing one of the most challenging execution schedules, the project overcame:

A late start that required accelerated mobilization.
Difficult geotechnical conditions, necessitate extensive soil improvement and piling works.
Construction of large-scale marine and water intake structures in the open sea.
The complexities of a remote site location, require advanced logistics and planning.
Through innovative engineering and exceptional project management, the Burullus Combined Cycle Power Plant stands as a milestone achievement in Egypt’s power sector and a global reference for fast-track megaproject execution.
