When treating challenging feed waters, DOW FILMTEC BW30-365 consistently delivers high performance and maximum element life. This element, which was formerly known as the Filmtec BW30 8040, has outstanding robustness and durability, strong rejection, and demonstrated performance under a variety of feed situations where unit cost is a crucial determinant. Using the thickest feed spacer possible, the DOW FILMTEC BW30-365 element is ideally suited for systems working on tough feed streams, where dependable pretreatment is not an option or where maximal cleanability gives value. For optimal cleaning, it can be cleaned across a broad pH range (pH 1–13).
Vital Information.
In order to prepare the membranes for operational duty and to avoid membrane damage from overfeeding or hydraulic shock, reverse osmosis water treatment systems must be started up properly. In order to meet system water quality and productivity targets, it is also helpful to follow the correct start-up procedure to guarantee that system operating parameters match design specifications. Membrane pretreatment, membrane element loading, instrument calibration, and other system tests should be finished prior to starting up the system. For additional information, please consult the application information literature titled "Start-Up Sequence" (Form No. 609-02077).
Guidelines for Operations:
To avoid potential membrane damage, avoid sudden changes in pressure or cross-flow on the spiral elements during startup, shutdown, cleaning, or other procedures.
It is advised to switch from a standstill to a running condition gradually during startup in the manner described below:

  1. Increase the feed pressure gradually over a period of 30 to 60 seconds.
  2. It should take 15 to 20 seconds to progressively reach the cross-flow velocity at the designated operating point.
  3. The permeate from the first hour of operation ought to be thrown away.
General Information:
After the initial wetting, keep the elements consistently moist.  The DOW™ FILMTEC™ Reverse Osmosis and Nanofiltration Three-Year Prorated Limited Warranty (Form No. 609-35010) shall be void if the operating restrictions and instructions provided in this bulletin are not properly followed.
Membrane components should be submerged in a preservative solution to inhibit biological growth during extended system shutdowns.  The effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements are entirely the customer's responsibility.
A pressure vessel's (housing's) maximum pressure drop is 50 psi (3.4 bar).
Always steer clear of static permeate-side backpressure.
The following standard parameters are used to determine permeate flow and salt rejection:
2,000 ppm NaCl, 225 psi (15.3 bar), 77°F (25°C), pH 8, and 15% recovery.
  1. Individual element flow rates may differ, but they won't fall more than 15% short of the displayed figure.
  2. As design changes are made, sales specs might change.
  3. Guaranteed active area +/- 3%. Dow's active area is not equivalent to the nominal membrane area that certain manufacturers frequently claim. Form No. 609-00434 describes the measurement procedure.

Applications of RO Membrane

  1. Industrial water demineralization
  2. Production of municipal drinking water
  3. Water reuse

Benefits of RO Membrane

  1. High rejection results in high-quality water.
  2. long-lasting and easily cleaned for extended element life.
  3. The quality and performance of FilmTec.
Characteristics of RO Membrane
When treating challenging feed waters, the DOWTM FILMTECTM BW30-365 has long been the element of choice for system designers, OEMs, and system operators who want continuously high performance and maximum element life. In a variety of feed situations where unit cost is a major determinant, this element provides excellent robustness and durability, high rejection, and shown performance.
  • It has the thickest feed spacer (34 mil) in the industry to reduce the effect of fouling.
  • For optimal cleaning, it can be cleaned across the broadest pH range (pH 1–13).
  • Systems that operate on difficult feed streams, where dependable pretreatment is not an option or where maximal cleanability yields value, are the best candidates for the BW30-365.
