Company Overview.

Basic Information.

In Madison, Wisconsin, Bill Clack and his father Willis Clack started a little water softener trading company in 1944. Eventually, Clack Soft Water expanded into a small network of dealers in Wisconsin that sold Golden Horse products. By 1960, Clack Soft Water had changed its business model to become a manufacturer and distributor for independent OEM assemblers. The 609, a five-cycle, fully automatic valve with only the injector made of plastic, was one of the brass control valves that Clack invented and produced in the 1960s. In order to increase the corrosion resistance of raw steel tanks used in the production of side mount filter and softener tanks, Clack also used epoxy liners and over-painted enamel. In addition to manufacturing other components like 369 Manumatic valves, brine valves, and iron removal media like BIRM®, Clack Corporation's main business was the distribution of Ionac C249 resin, Erie control valves, and Apex fiberglass mineral tanks.
Clack was in charge of producing Apex-style mineral tanks as part of a joint venture with Erie Controls in Belgium from 1969 until the middle of the 1970s. By 1975, Clack was producing blow-molded brine tanks due to the oil crisis of 1974. Later, Structural Fibers and Clack Corporation established a joint venture in Belgium where structural FRP tanks are manufactured and Clack products are distributed.
Following his graduation from the University of Wisconsin, Richard Clack began working for the company full-time in 1970. By developing a full range of brine tanks and specialized custom blow molding, which encompassed three manufacturing facilities, Rich was in charge of the blow molding components division's expansion in the late 1970s. Clack was able to increase their product turns and decrease customer inventory by combining components into a highly competitive package for OEMs thanks to the full line of produced brine tanks.
Clack began assembling filter cartridges and manufacturing unique plastic water treatment components in Rogers, Arkansas, at the beginning of the 1980s. The learning curve conversions from brass components to engineered plastics took place in the 1980s. Using a unique, proprietary manifold plate that capitalized on prior plastic molding expertise, Clack unveiled the Microline RO system.
Following his father Bill's death in 1987, Rich took over as CEO and president of Clack. Clack expanded its plastic custom blow molding business and significantly enhanced its ability to distribute water treatment components to clients across the globe in the 1990s. Due to market conditions and industry consolidation, Clack used its prior experience with plastic molding water treatment pressurized components and conducted numerous customer focus groups to design and launch a brand-new electronic 1 inch engineered plastic control valve in 2000. Clack finished producing its range of control valves for homes and businesses up to 3-inch service flow in the ensuing nine years. One of the few family-run companies that still advertises that their manufactured goods are "Made in USA" is Clack.
