The pressure-driven process of an ultrafiltration membrane system, also known as an ultrafiltration water purification plant, eliminates suspended or particulate matter from water. The most efficient way to replace pretreatment units like sand or activated carbon mechanical filtration is with an ultrafiltration membrane system. Reverse osmosis membranes are not as permeable as UF membranes. The most crucial aspect of an ultrafiltration water purification plant is that, because of their smaller size, MF and UF cannot remove TDS from raw water if you only employ an ultrafiltration membrane system.
It has been discovered that UF with a nominal pore size of around 0.02 μm works best in removing possible contaminants from the feed water source that cause RO membrane fouling, including silt, algae, microorganisms, and big molecular weight. The majority of ultrafiltration water purification plants are utilized as RO system pretreatment. Ultrafiltration membrane systems, which have pore sizes ranging from 10 to 100 nm, or roughly 500 to 500,000 Dalton in molecular weight, are in the middle between nanofiltration and microfiltration. Transmembrane pressure drives the separation process in UF membranes, which normally run between 3 and 5 bar, while in certain exceptional situations they may function up to 8 bar.
