Ultrafiltration (UF) is a purification method that uses an ultrafine membrane medium to extract soluble chemicals from particulate debris. For the production of potable water, wastewater reclamation, reverse osmosis pretreatment, and desalination pretreatment, ultrafiltration is a great separation method. In order to provide the market with more than 35 years of experience and knowledge, we at DuPont developed DuPontTM IntegraTecTM, an Integrated Ultrafiltration Technology Portfolio that integrates three of the industry's top brands: Inge®, MEMCOR®, and DuPontTM. When three wildly popular brands are combined, the result is something much more powerful than the sum of their individual parts. We provide the solution where you need with our pressurized UF, submerged UF, multi-element UF, and UF module components.
Better than conventional media filtration and sand filters
Sand filters and media filtration, like the majority of traditional filtering techniques, depend on reliable source water quality to produce high-quality effluent, which isn't always feasible. Furthermore, they don't offer a complete barrier. Particles as small as 5 microns are usually eliminated by conventional media filters.
However, ultrafiltration (UF) is not affected by those restrictions. This method meets increasingly strict water-quality regulations worldwide and provides a stable, dependable, and consistent water quality by excluding particles 0.02 to 0.05 microns, such as bacteria, viruses, and colloids, using an ultrafiltration membrane barrier.
UF provides:

  • High and reliable product quality as determined by the silt density index (SDI) or turbidity (NTU).
  • Tolerance for changes in feedwater quality.
  • No pretreatment chemicals (polymer, coagulant, pH correction) or related expenses are used for the disposal of sludge.
  • Less weight and a smaller footprint than media filters.
UF also lessens the fouling of the RO membranes when used as a pretreatment for RO, which might result in:
  • Lower operational expenses and downtime as a result of less frequent chemical cleaning.
  • The possibility of running RO at a higher flux while using fewer membranes and vessels, which would reduce the RO system's initial investment.
