 Style and Purpose
Design draft:
A portion of a Q-PRESS® HUBER Screw Press
Design sketch: A portion of a HUBER Screw Press Q-PRESS® Sludge that has been treated with flocculant is fed straight into the cylindrical filter basket of the device, which is powered by a slow-rotating auger, through a flocculation section.
Free water is forced out of the sludge by the auger's shape, which steadily decreases the volume in the filter basket. At the discharge end, a pneumatically adjustable pressure cone is pushed aside by the auger as the progressively thicker sludge is forced towards an annular clearing.
Because the screw shaft rotates, a scraper on it continuously cleans the filter basket from the inside. The HUBER Screw Press Q-PRESS® filter basket is periodically and segment by segment backwashed from the exterior by means of a fixed spray bar. From size 620.2, the dewatering process continues uninterrupted. The screw shaft speed, the sludge feeding pressure, the discharge cone's pneumatic counterpressure, and the dosing and admixing of flocculant are among the parameters that are adjusted and controlled.
Novelty and Particular Uses
Efficiency of energy:
The screw drives outperform the electric motors' current energy efficiency requirements.Press sludge rewetting by washing is minimized, particularly in the press zone, without sacrificing the significance of washing in the predewatering zone.
Upkeep:

The filter baskets' three segments can be ordered as axially separated segments. For maintenance purposes, only the top half of the basket needs to be taken out. During maintenance, the lower half of the filter basket stays inside the Q-PRESS® filtrate chamber but can be detached from the screw shaft using a unique mechanism. This eliminates the need for lifting equipment during maintenance, saves a ton of time, and minimizes the amount of space needed.
Removing water from thin sludges

Large amounts of sludge water have already been removed from the pre-dewatering zone as a result of pump feeding. This eliminates the need for preliminary thickening and allows for the cost-effective dewatering of thin sludges with a solids content less than 1%. It is possible to attain dewatering results of typically 18–25% DS, with a single step sludge volume reduction of up to > 97%. This lowers the upfront investment and running expenses for the sludge thickening process.
Differentiable sludge properties

Regularly altering the quality of the sludge usually impairs dewatering performance and increases operator attention. Our Q-PRESS® HUBER Screw Press self-adjusts to overloading and underloading automatically. A control loop ensures that performance and functioning are constantly at their best. Because of this, our Q-PRESS® is adaptable to different sludge quality and requires less operator attention to operate dependably.
