Duplex systems have two softening units, and flow control is used to regulate the regeneration process.The regeneration process, which has five basic steps—backwash, brine, slow rinsing, quick rinsing, and salt tank refilling—begins when the resin exchange capacity is depleted. In order to prepare the system for a new service cycle, regeneration involves the resin releasing its hardness ions into the water and regaining its sodium ions from the brine that was made in the salt tank.
