Reverse osmosis is the process of forcing water molecules to enter the dilute solution through the semi-permeable membrane in the opposite direction from natural osmosis by applying pressure on the side of the concentrated solution that is greater than the osmotic pressure of the solution. While most solutes (dissolved solids) cannot pass through the semipermeable membrane and are trapped, the membrane allows the semipermeable membrane to flow to diluted solutions.
Reverse osmosis: What is it?
Two concentrated solutions are separated from one another by a semi-permeable membrane (Membrane). The solution with the lower concentration will eventually float to the side of the solution with the greater concentration. Osmotic pressure, or the difference in water level that results, is what the reverse osmosis pressure is. Only water molecules can flow through a semipermeable membrane when purifying water using osmotic pressure and reverse loading.
